Terms of use
NamePairings is provided free, as is, for personal use. The name suggestions and pairing scores are offered for interest and inspiration — they are not professional advice, and naming a child is entirely your decision.
You may not scrape or bulk-copy the site's generated pages or data for republication. The underlying name statistics are US Social Security Administration public records and are not ours to license.
Why interest and inspiration, not advice
The scoring on this site measures sound and style fit — how a middle name flows after a first name, how well sibling names sit together — nothing more. It has no view on family tradition, religious meaning, how a name will read in your specific accent, or how relatives will react to it, all of which matter more to most parents than syllable rhythm. Treat a high score as one useful data point, not a verdict.
What the tool doesn't cover
We don't check whether a name is legally permitted to register in your state, country, or hospital — naming rules vary by jurisdiction and change over time, and we don't track them. We also don't check trademark status, meaning in every language and culture, or how a name will be perceived by any particular community; a name can score well here and still not be right for your situation.
Data and intellectual property
The name frequency and popularity figures come from US Social Security Administration public records, which belong to no one and are free to use. The syllable counts, ending-sound tags, style labels, scoring logic, and the site's own text and design are the work of Mithila Labs and may not be copied wholesale onto another site. Linking to a page here, or quoting a short passage with credit, is fine.
No warranty
The site is provided as-is. We try to keep the data accurate and the tool working correctly, but we don't guarantee it will be error-free, available at all times, or fit for any particular purpose beyond general interest.
Automated access
The scraping restriction above covers bulk, automated copying of the site's generated pages — for example, a script that downloads every name page to rebuild a competing list elsewhere. It doesn't cover a search engine indexing the site normally, or a single person reading a page in a browser. If you want to use the underlying dataset for something specific, ask first — see contact below.
Age of use
The tool itself is meant for adults choosing a name for a child, not for use by children. There's no age gate on the site because it doesn't collect the kind of information that would require one, but the content and framing throughout assumes a parent or expectant parent is the one reading it.
Availability
We aim to keep the site running continuously, but like any website it can occasionally go down for maintenance, hosting issues, or reasons outside our control. There's no guaranteed uptime commitment attached to a free tool like this one.
How disputes would be handled
If a disagreement over these terms ever came up, we'd expect it to be resolved through ordinary conversation first — email us and describe the issue. These terms are governed by the laws that generally apply to a small US-based publisher; there's no separate arbitration clause or specialist court named here, because a free name-pairing tool is unlikely to need one.
If a section of these terms doesn't hold up
If any single part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable for some reason, the rest still applies. One clause failing doesn't void the whole agreement.
The whole agreement
These terms, together with the privacy policy, cover the entire understanding between you and NamePairings for using the site — there are no separate side agreements or hidden terms beyond what's written here.
If you disagree with a name's score
Disagreeing with a specific score isn't a terms violation — it's exactly the kind of feedback the contact page is for. These terms cover how you're allowed to use the site, not whether you have to agree with what it tells you.
Embedding or framing the site
Please don't embed NamePairings pages inside another site's frame or present them as your own content. Linking directly to a page — so a visitor lands on namepairings.com itself — is exactly what the site is built for and always welcome.
Feedback isn't a contract
Sending a suggestion doesn't obligate us to build it, and doesn't create any ownership claim over how the site works afterward — we're glad to hear ideas, but they're implemented (or not) at our own discretion.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated if the site's features or data sourcing change. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the current version. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
